Been choosing a new ringtone for your cell?
Spend an hour in the student lounge at Lincoln Land Community College’s Menard Hall, for example, and the volume of cell-expression is mind-bending - a snippet of the old “Super Mario Bros.” theme to the left, a tune from the Broadway musical “Avenue Q” to the right, a rhythmic mash-up of traditional phone rings over there, the total nonsense of D4L’s club hit “Laffy Taffy” over here.

On the other hand, sometimes, it just means nothing. Gina Kaiser’s phone emits some kind of spacey, swirly, new-agey thing. But don’t bother prying into Kaiser’s psyche, the Springfield woman warns.
“It was a different ring,” she says. “And I got so tired of every time someone’s cell phone rang, everybody was grabbing for them, because they were all the same.”
